Putting Purpose Behind Movement: The Benefits of Push-Pull Exercises
If people put more purpose in their workouts, then they may be more inclined to adhere to there fitness routine. The other day I was doing an upper body workout and I noticed how the different upper body exercises can help me understand whether its my intuition, or my outside influences that is pressuring me to make a certain life decision. For Example:
Push Exercises: These are typically your chest exercises, similar to the pressure of your outward influences, (boss, spouse, parents, siblings, frenemies, social media…), these are the exercises require you to push the weight away from your body. In the case of chest fly exercises, they require you to pull yourself together after the pressure seems to be pulling too far in different directions. The resistant force is either in front of you (blocking your way) or behind you (holding you back). … like its something that you don’t really want to do so you resist doing it? When I do these exercises, I like to imagine that I’m helping myself set boundaries and resist the outward influences by “pushing back” against the unwanted pressure to do what you feel isn’t best for you. So when I leave the gym, I have no problem saying no because I no that pushing things away is actually healthy especially if it helps us set boundaries for a happier, stress-less life.
On the other hand,
Pull Exercises: Are your back exercises. You will typically face the direction of your resistant force and that force will pull you in a particular direction. Similar to your heavenly guidance, we will resist this pull before finally allowing it to take us in the desired direction we are both trying to go. We are already going in the direction of the pull but we resist it because the pull is overwhelming… does this remind you of how we procrastinate doing those important things? Doing these exercises can help you learn when you are being resistant to your own good and when you need to let go and lean in to your calling.
I know it gets hard to get up and walk in your purpose everyday especially if you have no idea what your purpose is or how to even get on the right path to find it.
